French are streaming towards subscription video on demand

Subscription video on demand use has grown 40% over the past year in France.

France is in the midst of a subscription-driven video on demand explosion, according to a survey by Médiamétrie.  It found that more than 21% of internet users over the age of six has signed up to a subscription service. This equates to a rise of more than 40% over the past year.

This increase is mainly driven by Netflix, ahead of the two major French players, CanalPlay and SFR Play. An added impetus has come with the arrival of Amazon on the market, it says, illustrating the dynamism of the SVoD.

With the launch in France of CanalPlay in 2011 and Netflix in 2014, the country has progressively tuned into streaming.

It is so popular that the survey found that more than three-quarters use a service once a week and at least 44% daily.

Médiamétrie has been conducting this study for three years now and says that Netflix has moved ahead of CanalPlay and SFR Play.

It says subscribers are happy that they can watch movies and TV series legally, without advertising and at a lower price.

For others its the back catalogues and variety of offering. They love that they are not tied into a contract and can cancel or sign-up at any time. Then there is the possibility to watch on TV at home, or tablet and smartphone on the go. And they have bonus of being able to share accounts, thereby cutting costs.

A innocent man murdered by his father for helping the slaves, curses “God” for allowing his father to kill him. Banished to hell, he vows he’ll kill “God” when a woman with a pure soul wears the sapphire ring he was murdered in.

Synopsis: “SILHOUETTE” is about a man named Douglass. A kind man, nice to the slaves. One night while feeding the slaves, one of them asks, “Why are you nice to us?” Douglass explains the story behind his great-grandmother and the sapphire ring on his right hand, which was passed down to him. His father Sebastian bursts into the quarters, along with twelve other men carrying nooses and machete’s.

Sebastian confronts Douglass about feeding the slaves, and Douglass stands firm by his actions. His father pistol-whips him, knocking him to the floor, and then signals for one of the men to place a noose around his neck. The slave talking to Douglass tries to help, and Sebastian shoots him in the head. The men prop Douglass against the table, and Sebastian takes Douglass right hand placing it on the table, slamming a fork into it, alternating doing his left hand the same.

Sebastian pistol-whips him some more, and then walks over to one of the men taking a machete from him. He comes back to Douglass, telling him, “Burn in hell, nigger lover.”. Douglass looks up with a smile, and before he can get his words out, Sebastian decapitates him. The men begin slaughtering the slaves, while Douglass body stands in spirit form watching the onslaught. A light omits from the ring absorbing his spirit in.

Standing at heaven’s gate is his great-grandmother. His spirit appears, and she tells him come home. Confused about his death. Douglass says “I thought God watches over those who do good?”. She tells him he does, and this is his reward for his good deeds. Outraged, Douglass curses God, vowing he’ll over-throw heaven, when his soul merges with a woman who has a pure soul, when she places the ring on he was murdered in. Banished to hell, his flesh is skinned with rusty razors, as he laughs.

The year is now, 1990. A woman named Chrissy is on her knees covered in dirt and sweat, dressed in a torn nightgown in a dim room laced with mist. Ghoulish creatures are prowling on the walls. Slowly standing to her feet, she shouts in triumph, “I beat you!”. A demonic laughter cuts through the darkness, followed by the words of the Beast saying, “Do you really think you can defeat me?”. The creatures crawl off into the darkness, and just as Chrissy prepares to speak, a arm made of black liquid lunges from the darkness, grabbing her by the throat, pulling her in.

She struggles to get free, as her hands slide through the liquid. Her eyes lock with the white eyes with blue souls circulating through them. The Beast says, “The only God, is me!” The Beast releases a loud growl, slamming her to the floor, and the room turns white. She’s on her knees hacking. Not far from her is the stretched out body of her husband Larry in a pool of blood, with claw marks in his back. She inches over towards him, holding him in her arms sobbing. A tear falls on his face, and he wakes up. Confused where they are, he asks, “What happened?”. She tells him it doesn’t matter. Standing to her feet, she helps him stand, and they begin walking off.

He stops walking and she turns looking at him. He asks her about a threesome when they get home, and she scoffs denying him, implying her religion doesn’t condone such acts. He pulls her in a tight hug, trying to persuade her. The walls crack, and blood slowly drips in. The floor turns into disemboweled bodies, grabbing at her legs. His back spreads open, and black liquid starts pouring out. She struggles to break his hold, and in the voice of the Beast, he says, “If you love me bitch, you’ll do it.”.

She gasps, realizing she’s being held by the Beast. The Beast body is a tall black liquid mass, with scattered human remains throughout the body. The head is half demon and human decomposing flesh, with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, dripping saliva and blood. The arms lift her up, so they can look eye to eye. The Beast says, “Join me now, or spend eternity in hell.”. Declining the offer, a loud bell goes off, and the walls break open, spilling blood and organs. The bodies on the floor rise, spilling their insides. A pair or rotted human arms lunge from the Beast body going through her chest, coming out the back, spilling her insides. The hands latch hold to each side, pulling her a part. The room fills with blood and organs, fading to black.
The year is now, 2016. Samantha is standing in her collection room filled with her artwork, staring at a blank canvas. Her husband Cassidy comes into the room walking over to her. He asks her are they having the party tonight, celebrating another one of her paintings sold. She replies, “Yes.”. He gives her a kiss prepared to leave the room, and then he pauses making his way back to her, telling her to close her eyes. She closes her eyes, and he pulls out a ring box. He tells her open your eyes, and her expression shows she’s not impressed. He laughs, telling her to open it. She opens the box, and her mouth drops in awe, staring at Douglass ring.

She asks where did he get the ring, and he tells her, he stopped at a antique shop, and the man who sold him the ring, was trying to tell him the legend behind it. She asks about the legend, and he gives her a half story, only wanting her to try the ring on. She places the ring on her right hand, and then gives him a kiss. He tells her “I’m about to go get the stuff for the party.”. He walks out, and she continues smiling, turning back to look at the blank canvas.

The night of the party, Bill, Eddie, Tracy, Brenda, Brad, Ted and Cassidy’s ex Tiffany are in the dinning room, waiting for Samantha and Cassidy to come into the room. Cassidy comes in drunk, and Tiffany tries persuading him into the hallway. Samantha comes disrupting their conversation. Tiffany stares Samantha down, and Samantha brushes her off, walking to the fireplace prepared to speak. Tiffany is running off at the mouth provoking Samantha. Samantha walks over to her, grabbing her by the collar, and Cassidy tries breaking them up. The lights flicker on and off, as the ring throbs.

Everyone stops what they’re doing, paying attention to the lights. Tiffany says one more smart remark, and Samantha slaps her with her right hand. As soon as her palm touches her face, black smoke comes rushing out the ring, filling the room. Everyone gasps falling to the floor unconscious. When they awake, unaware of what happened, carrying on with life. One by one, their inner desires and deceit leads to their death by the Beast. Samantha has dreams of each death, while the Beast shows her why he became what he is. Cassidy is trying to save Samantha’s soul before she merges with the Beast, but his valiant effort will possibly fail in the end.

Represent – Script / Screenplay

Between preventing his younger sister from joining the “Bloods” and stopping his friends who are “Crips” from killing her. Chris has to make life changing decisions, before his sister ends up dead, and he gets deep in the gang world.

Synopsis: “REPRESENT” is based on some true events. The story revolves around Chris. A teenager aiming to finish the last few weeks of school, while watching over his sister. One night, Chris is riding around Detroit, with his friend Clip. Clip is frustrated his fellow Crip member was murdered by a rival Blood. Chris is sympathetic to his anger, but he’s confused at the fact they’re on the West Side. Clip tells him, one of the people involved in the murder lives in the area.

From confused to worried. Chris questions Clip about killing the person, while he’s in the car. Clip pulls over across the street from a liquor store, and then places a blue bandanna around his face, before placing a Desert eagle on his lap. Chris tries to stop him, but Clip gets out, making his way across the street to the store.

Brandon is inside the store grabbing some beers, unaware Clip is in the store. Brandon gets to the counter placing his beers down, and Clip runs over hitting him in the mouth. The two begin fighting, putting on a good show, until Brandon grabs one of the beers hitting Clip over the head, causing him to fall to one knee. Brandon makes his way out the store, and Clip gains his focus chasing after him.

Brandon is running for his car, when Clip comes out pulling the Desert eagle out, shooting him in the back. While Brandon is on the ground, Clip runs over flipping him over. Clip has a few select words. Brandon laughs prepared to respond, and Clip shoots him once in the head, and four times in the chest.

Clip runs back to the car, and before he can get in closing the door good, Chris is already flying down the street. From that point on, Chris life takes a downward spiral. He gets jumped in the bathroom by Tony and some other Bloods, because of the comment he made in class about Brandon’s murder. His sister Tasha is trying to date Tony, and join the Bloods. Clip and the rest of the Crips are out to kill Tasha, as well as Tony. Chris has to make some life changing decisions before Tasha ends up dead, and he gets deep into the gang world.

Creative notes: I based the script on true incidents in my life, because I feel it’s young people out here in the world who believe once they’re in a gang, they’re untouchable, and that’s far from true. So, instead of showing one side of what a gang is. I felt I should display the bad that comes along with it, to give a person something to think on, before picking up a flag to represent something.

The Neighbor – Script / Screenplay

2

The laws of the ten commandments are enforced, when Deacon Patrick Graves discovers his wife cheating, leading to a gruesome murder. He goes on a holy rampage of murder, killing those who break the commandments, eating their flesh, which in his mind is cleansing their souls.

Synopsis: “THE NEIGHBOR” is about Deacon Patrick Graves. A God-fearing man, loved and respected by the people in church. When he discovers his wife has committed adultery, he takes the laws of the commandments into his own hands.

Patrick, Danielle and Michael sit at the dinning room table having dinner with a glass of wine. Danielle compliments Patrick on his sermon, and Michael agrees with what she said. Patrick takes a sip from his wine, before telling them, he knows about the video. Stunned. The two try explaining the situation, but Patrick tells them he’s a man of God, and their sins will take a toll when the time comes.

Patrick asks for a toast, and the two look confused, lifting their glass. They all take a sip, and within seconds, Danielle and Michael feel dizzy, trying to stand, falling back down in their seats, dropping their heads on the table. Patrick leans over kissing Danielle’s forehead, laughing at the fact he laced their wine with GHB.
On the same night, inside of an old abandon church. Michael is naked, tied down to a chair with his arms pulled behind him. On his wrist are ropes connecting to the back axles on Patrick’s truck. Danielle is on her knees naked, with her head between Michael’s legs. Ropes hold her down, and her arms are pulled around the chair with ropes on her wrist, connecting to the axles as well.

Patrick gets out of the truck making his way to the two, taking a sip from the whiskey bottle in his hand. He gets to Michael offering him a sip, and Michael turns his head. Michael tries reasoning with him, but doesn’t prevail. Patrick gets back into his truck starting it, slowly moving forward, until their arms come from the sockets. He gets out with a combat knife, walking back over to Michael, placing the knife to his throat. He tells him, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.” and then slits his throat.

At Patrick’s house knocking on the door getting no response, is Fred, Michael’s ten-year-old son. He comes from the porch prepared to go home, when he looks in the back seeing the lights on in the garage. He makes his way to the garage, unable to see anything from the slits, so he makes his way over to the door, kneeling down looking through the keyhole. Inside the garage, Patrick has Michael and Danielle’s dead bodies on top of some plastic, cutting pieces of flesh from their bodies, eating it. Fred shrieks, and footsteps are heard coming towards the door. Patrick opens the door, getting a glimpse of Fred, before he gets up running away.

Fred gets to his grandmother’s house hysterical. She comes from upstairs, running over to him, trying to calm him down, while he repeats, “Call the police! He’s eating dad!”. Patrick stands on his porch with his ten-year-old daughter Bridgette, while police officers come out his house, and from the backyard. One of the officers comes up to Thompson, telling him everything is clear. Thompson tells Patrick he can carry on with his evening, and Patrick looks at Fred and his grandmother standing in the street. He tells Thompson, “A man of God wouldn’t do what I’ve been accused of.”, before him and Bridgette go in the house.

Thompson tells Fred’s grandmother this was a false alarm, and she’s outraged, walking off with Fred. On Sunday, Patrick stands behind the pulpit, asking the members of the church why are they blessed, and the demon they want off of their back? Greg Green confesses he stopped drinking, so he can hopefully reunite with his wife and daughter. Bradley Summers confesses he’s been clean from heroin, and instead of using, he helps those in need at a clinic. Eric Heap confesses he was a thief, and what changed his life, is when he broke into a woman’s house, and she greeted him with the barrel of a shotgun. Ashley Turner confesses she was a nympho, and her wake up call, was when she contracted a disease, luckily for her was curable.

Each person who confessed, meets a gruesome death at the hands of Patrick. Even with the tips Fred’s grandmother tries giving the police to catch him, they have no solid proof to arrest him.

Creative notes: The mother of my daughter was telling me about a dream she had, about a man killing and eating people in front of his daughter in his basement, and she told me, use that as an idea. From there, I came up with Deacon Patrick Graves, because I never seen a movie with a religious base, and the main character being a believer in God as the killer.

How to get 15 million subscribers on Youtube

Enchufetv, a comedy channel on the internet, came out of nowhere to become a reference in Latin America

https://www.boostyourfilm.com/how-to-get-15-million-subscribers-on-youtube

Here are some keys to its success that the creators of the internet channel enchufetv have shared in several interviews and that may be useful for future filmmakers and Youtubers who aspire to large audiences on the web.

Create a native project for the internet, rigorously done with the stages of script production, with high quality filming and postproduction, and in principle a good idea. And whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, the story should have three elements: first a good script, then a good script and in the end a good script.

Establish the project as a multimodal platform: enchufetv is a platform which involves a website, facebook, and is an application that can be viewed on computers, tablets and smartphones.

Use a language common to a large community, which is full of nods and winks to the way people speak in Mexico, Argentina, the Latin American public of the United States and; of course, of Ecuador.

Freedom to run with themes and uncensored language: enchufetv found a direct and fresh way to deal with taboo topics such as homosexuality, class differences, problems, anxieties and fears of young people, and everything in the form of irreverent and provocative comedy. It is a content that conventional TV channels do not want or do not dare to touch, which increases the number of visitors on the platform.

French digital channels to get cash to make films

French cinema launches fund for Youtube generation of filmmakers

France’s CNC has launched a €2m fund to help young digital producers finance their films. The money is for creatives from Youtube, Facebook, Dailymotion and Vimeo. The idea is to fund 100 projects.

Julien Neutres, director of creation, territories and publics at the CNC, hopes that this help will give young creators “the means” to fulfil their ambitions.

To ensure that the money goes to the right place, the CNC worked with videographers already present on these platforms. Studios Bagel, Avner, Les parasites and Norman and Cyprien participated in a year of meetings to draw the framework of this pet project.

Frédérique Bredin, President of the CNC, said we must “support these new writings that are flourishing on the Internet, these new aesthetics, new formats, new forms of writing and directing”.

A 10-member panel of creators, producers, and web entrepreneurs will meet five times a year to award two grants:

The first is called Video support. This will give up to €30,000 for video creation for those with 10,000 subscribers or have been in a festival.

The second is support for creators’ channels which will give up to €50,000 to video creators with 50,000 subscribers or more.

Some may argue that this is a drop in the ocean compared with the €355m euros dished out to French cinema in 2016. But it is a good start and it is great that there is an awareness of this band of new creators. The first productions supported should see the light of day in June 2018.
